The Division of Continuing Education at National Taiwan Sport University

Introduction to the Division of Continuing Education

Introduction

In today's rapidly evolving academic environment, we recognize the critical importance of "lifelong learning." Continuous education is essential for keeping pace with the changing times and preventing individuals from being overwhelmed by the vast influx of knowledge. The Ministry of Education actively encourages schools at all levels to develop extension education programs that address the diverse needs of society. In alignment with the national sports policy, National Taiwan Sport University has long been committed to training sports professionals, providing in-service education, organizing seminars, and offering professional services. In 1996, we established the Center for Extension Education, which is divided into three units: Activities, Promotion, and Administration, to enhance our service to society.

In 2019, we implemented several significant changes. The Center for Extension Education has been renamed the Department of Continuing Education and Extension, and a Resource Center for Indigenous Students has been established. These modifications are intended to better address the evolving needs of society. We are dedicated to promoting lifelong learning, professional development, and Indigenous education, thereby making a greater contribution to society.

Currently, we offer a diverse array of extension education programs, including the Bachelor's Degree Program (which is conducted twice a year), the Elementary School Winter and Summer Sports Camps, the Elementary School Recreational Sports Camps, the Middle and Elementary School Skill Development Camps, the World Village Camp, the Outdoor Adventure Camps, and the Children’s Club, among other activities.

Our professional extension education courses specifically target physical education teachers, sports coaches, sports scientists, and professionals in the health and leisure industries, offering them opportunities for continuing education. These programs are designed to enhance professional skills and address the needs of relevant sectors.

The winter and summer sports camps are founded on the principles of "growth through play" and "learning through sports," enabling students to experience the joy of athletics while acquiring new skills. This approach not only fosters a sustainable long-term operational model but also enhances the attractiveness of the courses.

The "World Village Camp" recruits students from secondary schools in Singapore, Chinese middle schools in Brunei, and other regions to visit Taiwan and immerse themselves in indigenous culture. Our indigenous students have organized a series of courses that include outdoor camping, indigenous handicrafts, traditional clothing, cuisine, dance, and songs. These activities enable participants to gain a deeper understanding of and appreciation for the indigenous culture of our country.

We actively promote sports-related projects commissioned or subsidized by government agencies, conducting in-depth research and proposing effective strategies to support and enhance sports activities. Specifically for indigenous groups, we offer sports programs tailored to their cultural characteristics to improve their health and social engagement. These programs align with the policies of the Ministry of Education's Sports Administration and other relevant government agencies. Furthermore, we prioritize the needs of indigenous communities by actively developing sports programs exclusively for them. Through these initiatives, we aim not only to promote the accessibility and diversity of sports but also to enhance the overall health and social participation of indigenous groups. We will leverage our professional knowledge and extensive experience to design and implement sports programs that resonate with indigenous culture and values, ensuring the effectiveness and sustainability of the activities while providing comprehensive sports services and support.
